Review on Rust-Oleum 280882 Specialty Tub & Tile Spray Paint, 12 Oz, White by Aaron Villanueva

Difficult to keep smooth

DON'T USE THE SPRAY! There's a reason most tub and tile refinishing products are NOT in spray can form. If you want to try this DIY, I suggest using the roll on/brush on kind. Here's my full story: I started with the tub basin, which turned out very well! Mainly smooth and bright white, with full coverage in 1.5 cans. If I had stopped there, my review would have probably been 5 stars. There were a couple of drips, but that can happen with any spray paint type of product and just requires careful application.BE WARNED: the fumes are STRONG! Make sure to use a serious respirator mask equipped for painting and/or chemical toxins. I used a disposable mask first, then moved on to an N95 mask with a small respirator and still couldn't be in the bathroom for more than 10 minutes at a time. I soon bought a 3M respirator. It's seriously dangerous if you don't use the proper equipment, so PLEASE take that advice if nothing else! Open all windows and use any fans you can get your hands on. When I started moving upward, spraying the shower walls, it went well at first but I slowly started noticing that there was fuzz getting stuck in the paint. I tried wiping it away with a lint-free cloth, but that did NOT help. After a lot of frustration and letting it dry, I finally resorted to sanding the bumpiness down and reapplying.ANOTHER WARNING: make sure to CLEAN and VACUUM your surfaces before spraying! No matter how many times I did this, I was unable to get the walls totally smooth. The dust that came from spraying the product settled on the shower walls and became ugly bumps ALL OVER when I sprayed a new area. That was my biggest problem with this product. Everything needed to be squeaky clean and lint/fuzz/paint dust free, which can be hard to do in the middle of a project. I ended up having to sand off almost everything I did and go a totally different route. I have now ordered the roll on/brush on type of the same product from Rustoleum, and while that comes with it's own set of worries, I have more hope for a non-spray. The dust from the action of spraying the paint made more of a problem than anything else. Just be aware that it is difficult to work with.
