This chair came assembled; husband was once a carpenter, said it was well made. It is very nice looking with a black (I assume artificial) leather seat. I had wondered about the back rest being wood, but it fits in the right places for my back. I have a little trouble getting up, so I got arms on purpose. Note: if you want the arms to fit under the table, measure your table's distance from the floor; this fit under our table only after we popped off the little white plastic gliders on the bottom and replaced with the felt thingies, which are better for the floor anyway. The front of the arm that will come under the table is, on the chair, 27 7/8 inches, I would say 28 to be sure. That included the felt tip just installed.
