I never thought I would buy an iPod (or any other MP3 player), but I have very monotonous tasks to do in the next few months, so I decided that, if I don't buy it, I have to concentrate, with the same success you can listen to music. Obviously, a lot of attention has been paid to the layout of the iPod. What I found most original is that the controls always default to the volume setting. Someone at Apple found out that iTunes' feature to "normalize" or equalize the volume doesn't really work (nor does anyone else). So if you adjust the volume frequently, you can make it easier. The sound is pretty good. . No better than my $55. Discman but instead of listening to a CD from start to finish (horror!) I now have 3 weeks of music with no repeats. I thought the headphones sounded pretty good, but the left one kept falling out of my ear (I hear die-hard Apple fans say my ear should be mutilated since everything Apple makes is pristine). I have a pair of headphones and I'm in the store. iTunes can be a chore, but it's worth sparing yourself the pain of .mp3 tags, folders, subfolders, file naming conventions, etc. As long as you do what Steve wants you will be rewarded. I don't plan to use it for videos but I downloaded a free podcast. Honestly, it reminded me of the ads you used to see for the entire Bible on Microdot, but if you want to go to the movies that way, then you have more power. I want it to behave like a normal hard drive and I can transfer any type of file (simple). To be honest, I should have realized that like any hard drive, the iPod needs to be formatted differently for a Mac or PC (yes I have both, and yes the G4 is a little less frustrating than the Dell...) So so far I'm very satisfied. It's less than half the price of an iPhone, but my music never gets interrupted by a call. Well that's cool.
