I've had the Z Play, Z2 Play and Z4 and have always used a bumper that left the rear exposed and clean (why else buy a Z?). While this bumper looks and feels inferior, it's *much* more durable. Previous bumper designs used both hard and soft plastics. They always broke around USB and HSJ connectors where hard plastic was used. I never got more than 6 months from one. Less if I had to remove the bumper to access the SIM/SD tray. Because they use softer material all around, they are able to flex/stretch in those weaker areas without fatigue and possible breakage. There's also more clearance around the HSJ than on previous models. The knobs are stiffer than we'd like, but they can be trimmed a bit with an Exaton to make them more flexible. There are no problems with accidentally pressing the power button and turning down the volume at the same time, like in previous versions. They look a little "cheaper" on mobile, but every day I take durability for looks.
