I bought these pants for my 9 year old son to ski and they were fantastic! They look great and were comfortable and warm enough for a day on the slopes and in the snow. They didn't slip and I didn't notice any cold or moisture seeping through. I wore a pair of men's balaclavas (Old Navy) underneath for extra warmth and comfort, and these pants were the outer layer. My son skied all day and fell in the snow many times and was warm and comfortable all day. He's a big fan of sweatpants with elastic waistbands, so they fit him perfectly! For size reference, he is a tall 9 year old (4ft 11in, 105#) and the 2XL was perfect! I think they say 2XL is for 14-16 year olds so be careful when ordering a size up. He wears XL boys' elastic waist jogging bottoms (Children's Place, Gap, Old Navy) so I picked a few sizes based on other reviews. I've already bought him a 3XL pair for next winter and am considering getting a pair for myself.
