Review on πŸ§₯ CE Approved Armored Textile Men's Biker Jacket - Viking Cycle Thor Motorcycle by James Lapa

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Some pluses, some minuses

First impression: the coat is very nice and corresponds to the description. It has a nice quilted removable cold weather liner and plenty of pockets. The "cable channel" for wired headphones is brilliant, but I can't speak to its effectiveness right now. Something I really like about a branded coat that I have and would love to have is the zippers that close in the opposite direction - that is, zip down to zip up and zip up, to open the zipper. It may seem like a small thing, but when the zips are DOWN it is very easy to close the bag with one hand to zip up; On the other hand, when they have to be buttoned up, two hands are required to zip up - one hand to pull the zip and the other to prevent the coat from unzipping. This is a small issue, but an important one. And I'm not sure how I feel about the Velcro on the front of the jacket, but I'm sure it will make the jacket much more waterproof/durable. It's armored in all the right places, so there's protection! Pros = Lots of pockets, conduit (haven't tried it), armor, looks Cons = Zipper direction Riding Impressions: Even without a balaclava, this is a VERY warm jacket. Ventilation is negligible - meaning I didn't notice the difference between open and closed. I think the reason it's a warm jacket to wear and little ventilation is because the durable lining is made of a "windbreaker" type material and isn't breathable - again, all my other names' coats have one breathable mesh style. Material for a non-removable lining. Driving through 75 degrees in New York in the morning, I felt very warm; warmer than my other textile jackets with mesh/breathable non-removable lining, but was bearable at highway speeds. I think this jacket would be perfect for weather between 55 and 75 (New York weather) with no quilt lining but not really over 75. Sleeve length could be a bit longer but enough to reach the handlebars (but I have quite long arms) . , so it could just be me). It's long enough to cover your back when you reach for the steering wheel. Someone else mentioned that the Velcro around the neck irritates the neck (Adam's apple area) from friction; I've found this to be true and will likely add some soft material to the jacket where this clasp is located - again this is what big name brands use in their coats that I own; soft padding at the neck end next to the Adam's apple. Conclusion: Very nice for the price of the jacket. In my humble opinion, it does have some minor "flaws" that can easily be remedied at almost no additional cost (reversing the direction of the zipper costs nothing; adding soft material around the Adam's apple area on the neck is minimal). In my opinion, the biggest drawback is the non-removable inner lining made of windproof material. This makes the jacket very warm, especially for those who sweat easily; and almost no ventilation. This last part is the reason for 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 stars. I have textile jackets from other well-known brands that I can wear comfortably at temperatures of 60 to 100 degrees unlined and 35 to 60 with a lining. Unfortunately, this jacket can't be worn in temperatures above 75 (again, New York weather), and even that pushes it; Therefore, here in New York, its use is limited to a few months of the year and not throughout the ski season. This would probably increase the cost of the coat significantly, but using two removable liners (if they wanted to keep the windproof liner) and breathable material for the non-removable liner would have easily earned this coat 5 stars for me. Even changing the non-removable liner from windproof to breathable, which probably wouldn't add anything to the cost (not sure if a different material would cost more or not), would be a definite improvement in versatility. Coat in my opinion and again probably make this coat 5 stars for me. After all, a coat this cheap could be better. But it's a lovely coat that I'll definitely keep for cool weather outings, but I'm not sure I'd buy it again knowing what I know now. The size is right. I bought the same size as all my other coats and it fits just like my other coats. Size XXL - I'm 6ft 5in, have long arms and weigh about 265,270. I hope this review helps those considering this coat. It costs money but has the disadvantages mentioned above; if it bothers you as much as me. This may not be as bad in drier climates when temperatures rise there. When protection is paramount, this coat ticks all the boxes.
