I have used a lot of this product to clean up cat and dog vomit, urine and feces. When used as intended, it works. First, manually remove as much of the stain as possible. Apply full strength Attack (not diluted) generously and leave on for several hours. If necessary, cover the area to be treated with a damp cloth. (Note: It smells like Pina Colada, and my Golden will lick the treated area if you don't mind. It's Golden.) After treatment, the area seems to attract dirt, so I usually smack it in with a bite. The treated area is slightly lighter than the surrounding carpet but this may be due to it being cleaner than the adjacent heavily used 30 year old dirty brown carpet. Steam cleaning the area minimizes the appearance. I didn't notice any discoloration when using it on the sofa, only on carpet. If you have a good rug you may need to test it in an inconspicuous spot first, but if you're more concerned with odor removal then this is the tool for the job. My data: a cat with interstitial cystitis. Great Dane with IBD and previously with stomach ulcer. Golden puppy accustomed to the house at 3.5 months.
