My wife recently bought me a bike as we sold our touring bike and she no longer wants to ride. She just upgraded my insurance and bought me a used Honda XR650l, thank goodness. I've ridden a variety of bikes from Hodaka to Honda for over 50 years with a few Brits. I usually had both a sport bike and some kind of dirt bike. Forty years ago I got married and my wife loves to ride and she has endured it all and ridden everything from my TT500 Yamaha to our late great Venture Royale, we have ridden thousands of miles in various Suzuki, Kawasaki . Triumph and even Harley 1200 Sportsters. At the time dirt bikes were either motocross (MX) or enduro with a small number of trials bikes. Now it's MXs and so-called "adventure tourers," which are basically 600-pound enduro bikes with panniers strapped on. Motorcycles used off-road are very similar to mountain bikes in that the key to a safe and good ride is tire pressure, as is rider skill. On a bike, those bumps pump up to about 50 pounds on the road, but drop them to about 25 pounds when riding off-road (depending on tire configuration). Excessive bumps in the dirt let you know something is not in such a hurry. The bikes are very similar and the tires are now known as 60/40 or 50/50 or some other combination that refers to the amount of on and off road riding you will be doing. The recommended off-road pressure is often 15 to 18 pounds. And therein lies the catch. The bike has a couple of CO2 cartridges and an inflator that attaches to a Presta or Schrader valve so you can pump up your tires when you come out of the mud. Not so easy with significantly larger-volume motorcycle tires. Here comes the portable mini air compressor V1 motor. Simply attach a pigtail to the battery and when you need air, plug it in, run it and you can properly inflate your motorcycle tires no matter the terrain. There are multiple connections, it works from 12 volts and allows you to quickly inflate the tires of an ATV or motorcycle. The Schrader connector at the end of the hose is a tight knot, unlike many flimsy, crimped knots found on other inflators. The VI is heavy for its size and releases a lot of air, and I expect it to perform long after I'm gone. I have a small trunk on the back of my bike, a waterproof bag and now the correct tire pressure for my Dunlop. 605. I've always believed that good tires on any vehicle, properly inflated, are the cheapest insurance you can get. With this stylish tool and a good track, your entire ride will be the best.
