Review on π 40 Watt Weller WLC100 Soldering Station by Daniel Mind
An ungrounded tip fried 30% of our Arduino boards.
LOST TIP WARNING! I gave it 5 stars so it doesn't get lost in the reviews but BUYERS BE CAREFUL when soldering ESD sensitive microelectronics. Two of these were used on our PCB assembly line and after months of mysterious microcontroller failures we finally found a problem with this soldering iron. A 30 volt AC current is passed through the tip, see fig. This burned up about 30% of the Arduino Minis we put on our circuit boards. We thought we had a bad batch of minis, but we finally found the problem. This soldering iron. Both of our identical devices have this problem. Do not purchase if using anything remotely sensitive to ESD.
