This looks like a good compass, but in my experience it's not very satisfactory. He "might" point north at some point, but it looks like he'll have to do a lot of digging to find his own version of the level. I don't know why it's so hard to make a freely rotating bearing for a compass needle; I've seen a lot of these sticky compasses, as well as a couple of $8 Chinese plastic compasses that were much better. For $40 it's not the same. I never had the certainty that it was pointing north and didn't need that last wobble.
