Review on Powerful and Versatile: DEWALT DCN660D1 Cordless Angled Finish Nailer Ideal for Precision Carpentry by Charles Butler

Great addition to my finishing tool

It can be silly to buy a 16ga nail gun when I already have a DCN650. DCN680. DCN681 but sometimes I need a closure that is heavier than 18 gauge but has a smaller opening than 15 gauge. Again, this may be purely psychological, but it shows that I really like the 16 gauge nail gun. I like the angled feed for penetrating corners, but what I really like about DEWALT nail guns is the precise tip for guiding nail placement. The plastic is white, which helps a lot with tip selection and allows for very accurate placement. In the past, when I used airguns, I often had a nail fly out or something splintered because it was shooting at a strange angle or you couldn't visually see exactly where you were. Not so with this new generation of 20V nailers. The nailer's rate of fire is also great. I recently had about 1 x 6 pieces of spruce lined up ready for nails. I basically used the strip plus nails in just a few seconds. This was the performance I was used to with air but often lacking in battery guns. Air has its benefits, but every time I complete a project I haven't struggled with tangled hoses, I haven't had to hear the constant sound of a compressor, and I've completely avoided the occasions when the electric compressors worked and the gas compressor did it. Motor problems I thank my luck for modern LiON batteries. If you don't have a 650 or 680 this is a good compromise pistol, if you have a 680 I would recommend this pistol or the 15 ga. about what kind of work you do most.

Pros
  • Nailer
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
