The first one I ordered didn't work; However, the packaging was damaged and I returned it for another one. The new one works*. He's very temperamental, doesn't like having the cord touched, and when he first started reading a couple of CDs, he stopped out of nowhere and gave a strange error message. It takes about two tries before it starts reading discs, let alone installing anything. Out of the 10 programs I installed with it, 7 received an error code that halted the installation and forced me to start over. Very annoying. I'm only keeping it because I bought it on sale and so far it plays SIMS and music CDs well which is all I need it for. I don't recommend this for high volume use or if you have a bunch of games on discs that you switch between frequently. The rating features are also pretty useless. The purity of a product has nothing to do with its properties. I haven't used tech support but I don't think they will help, this thing cost $15, if it doesn't help I'll return it. I don't know how thick the product is, but it's about the thickness of a laptop without a monitor.
