I upgraded an old tower with an old IDE controller for this SATA. I like being able to use Blu-ray drives when I want to, but for now I only use it with regular ASUS DVD-RW drives and it works great. I also like that it comes with all the necessary SATA cables. I had to adapt the old 4-pin Molex power cables for the case's power supply to be able to power the drives and this controller, but Revain have good cheap sets of these too. I'm not sure how well this controller will work with mixed drives as all drives are the same model including the original drive. These drives are so cheap these days that it's probably best to buy a couple of identical spares and have them ready when one of them spins to death, as it always does.
