Some leaders are advocating double masks and I know that our masks do not fit tightly around our noses and slide up and down uncovering our mouth or nose. NOT good! So I started searching on Ebay.My wife and I care deeply about the earth so we want masks that we can reuse to minimize the garbage we are creating. This led us to this Hopeurwell Cloth Face Mask and Glove Kit that has a lot of 5* reviews. They are modestly priced and have three layers of soft fabric. The masks arrived and they are soft, 3 layered, and the layers are thin. I don't know if that is better or worse, but my breath seems to mostly go through the fabric and not around it and it is easy to inhale. The 3.25” wide metal nose band is relatively light. At least for now it holds the mask close to my face as it goes along the sides of my nose. However if I am in cold weather the air shoots up in the area where my nose blends into my cheek, and it still fogs up glasses to some extent. It is better than other masks I have used. If your nose is wider than mine the metal band may not be wide enough. The elastic around that goes around my ears is comfortably soft and I wonder how it will hold up over time. I have a modest sized face and the elastic tends to pull my ears out away from the side of my head. Yet if the elastic was less vigorous I don't think that mask would stay close to my face. I want to try masks that have adjustable elastic so as the elastic gets tired you can adjust it and if your head (and beard) is bigger or smaller you can fit it to you. I think a mask where the tie goes behind your head might minimize the Dumbo ear pull. The mask is just high enough at the front so when I talk it stays pretty well over the top of my nose and below my chin. I did slip down on oneoccasion. The masks are sewn well and look like they will last through washings. One of the reviews says that the mask was made in the USA. Not so. The package contained a customs import certificate from China. So they are definitely not made here. The masks come with a pair of gloves for applying or removing the mask. I’m not sure they will help much but they remind me how important it may be to wash my hands thoroughly after removing the mask. The maker also urges people to wash the mask after every use. Good advice.Studies are being done to see which masks work best and I wish I could see the results. But not yet.My next test will be a four layer washable mask with a pocket for holding an additional filter. If you have found a more promising mask I’d love to hear from you. Marsh Hudson-Knapp
