Used for shower controls. The old valve didn't leak, but it was so tight that our granddaughter couldn't adjust it herself. The new valve is really easy to adjust. The old valve was probably a 40 year old original. There was evidence that this had been worked on and the removal tool had just broken the old internal grip stock mount. One of the two ears flew off and that was it. It took a 1/2 13 tap, a long screw and a hammer to finally get the old cartridge out. A full thread with a nut and washer and a heavy head as a demolition hammer would probably work better. Cleaned the hole with an SOS pad; a new cartridge installed; and voila HEAVEN! Smooth and silky. If hot and cold are reversed, you must remove the handle and rotate the shaft 180 degrees before reinstalling the handle.
