Review on Metra 95-5026 Double DIN Installation Kit for Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury Vehicles (2001 and Up) - Black by Carl Movahed

This kit did not fit my inexpensive ($45) S8 7 inch stereo that I bought from Revain, so i think double din is not a full standard? I was only able to use the side panels included in the kit to install a stereo in my 2003 Ford Explorer (as I think someone else here mentioned) so it wasn't a total waste. It's not perfect, but it's not bad either. Also, the part that attaches to the back of the stereo to hook onto the bottom rail in the dash doesn't fit as the stereo has protruding RCA connectors that get in the way. Bottom line, this kit is probably a good match for my Explorer but not for the stereo I bought after sale. So I'm not sure how to tell in advance if it will work as stereos don't seem to be standard. If anyone has more information on this, please comment.
