I surfed the internet to find out why my fifth grade Kohler toilet started intermittently. Everyone concluded that that little yellow gasket was worn out and needed replacing. There was a great Kohler video that explained the steps to fix this little problem. I gradually replaced the gasket and the toilet STILL worked intermittently so I flushed it once, checked it after half an hour and found it was still losing water in the tank. I turned off the water and flushed the tank to empty it. I then looked closely at the side with no gasket and noticed that there were SMALL bits of plastic left over from the old gasket that needed cleaning. When that was done I turned the water back on and after half an hour checked that the water level hadn't dropped. So this step isn't mentioned in the video, but it's important if you're replacing the yellow seal.
