They are fairly durable and made from polyethylene which I prefer as there are no harmful additives. I use them to clean my aquariums. Several things make them ideal for this. They are relatively wide and low, which means the water level stays low and doesn't rise as quickly as in a tall thin bank. This helps the water drain faster because it keeps the water levels in the tank and jug at a greater distance from each other, even when the jug is full. Most importantly, the jar is white, which means I have a good view of everything that's being poured from the tank into the jar - young plants or, oh, young plants. I'm not saying there are lids. Luckily I don't need them for their intended purpose, but for the most part I want my jar to have a lid. But that's JustMe.
