I recently restored old attic boards made from 10 foot by 8 inch pieces of Douglas fir knotted together. The wood was used for the beer tank project. I had to make multiple passes on my DeWalt planer for a total of about 200 linear feet of this wood per pass. The first set of edges became too blunt after the first 150ft of boards were trimmed down to .625". After swapping out the edges, they got the job done and are still going strong. The planed wood has small signs of wear. When I come to a project that needs a better finish I switch to a new set.
