Review on ๐Ÿ”ฎ Xikar Crystal Humidifier: Long-lasting, Reusable, Expanding Crystals, 70% Humidity, 2 fl oz Jar by Bridgett Walls

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Couldn't keep the humidor up for 25-50 bills.

I bought a 2 oz version for my glass top humidor which I won in a silent auction at a charity event. It looks the same as the 'Mantello 25-50 Cigar Desktop Humidor Royale Glasstop' that you can find here at Revain, so I think they might be the same. Anyway, I sealed the jar with kitchen and bath silicone, sealed the analog hygrometer in the humidor with the same silicone, let the humidor run for over a week, just added a small bowl of distilled water. It was 80% plus for a few days before I put this gel in with only 5 cigars (I only smoke occasionally). Over the next week, the humidity slowly dropped from 80% to 70%. I've had 70 and 70 on my digital hygrometer for a day or two, so I figured I was golden. But then it continued to decline over the next week until today when I checked it was 62%. I said to myself. yourself, that's enough. Time to hydrate and write a review on this product. For the record, I have a whole house humidifier on my heater so in the winter the house usually stays in the 40's-40's (since we're still having one of the wettest years on record with an outside humidity of 65% and up have) and a digital hygrometer/thermometer constantly reads 70/71 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm hesitant to try the 4 ounce version as the manufacturer lists this 2 ounce version as ideal for my humidor size. Could it all be because the humidor was a "cheap" humidor? I do not know. I'm going to put 5 cigars in a ziplock bag along with my digital hygrometer and this product to see what happens. I'll report back with the results. If it works out in the end I'll probably try another product because I don't need to store my cigars in a ziplock bag. and this humidifier in a 1-gallon ziplock freezer bag. The hygrometer has been showing 69% for a few days now. So it does what it's supposed to do as advertised to maintain the right humidity levels all the time. But the variable will, I can only assume, be the quality of your humidor. I have a cheap one and it didn't work for me. Many people have rated this product as perfect, which is why they may have a top-of-the-line humidor. People need to start including the type of humidor in their review to understand this. I increased the number of stars from 1 to 2. If there was 1/2 star I would give it 2.5. I won't give a 3 because someone has to drop the minimum requirement for a humidor for this item to work properly. not just a "come on everyone, if you have a humidor it will work for you" mentality.
