Review on πŸ“Έ Wireless Color Portable Document Scanner Epson WorkForce ES-300W ADF for PC and Mac: Sheet-fed and Duplex Scanning by Todd Atherton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good with lots of room for improvement.

Well I've been using it for 3 months and now it's time to give a review. While this scanner definitely helped declutter my filing cabinet, it came at the cost of a long and difficult learning curve. I'm happy with the overall quality of the scan and the speed is great. But figuring out the settings and the software was awful. The device has several software packages, all of which are very confusing. You need to install at least 3 programs: Document Capture Pro, Epson Scan 2 and ABBYY FineReader. Every software is different, I can't even get into the nuances without writing a few paragraphs. Basically what I found out is that Epson Scan 2 is bare bones, go into settings and press the scan button I need. But the software's built-in timeout setting kills the app after a few minutes of inactivity, and guess what, you have to restart the entire program. Just go on. Also, connecting the ES-300W to new Wi-Fi networks is not easy. After a lot of toggling and fixing, I mostly end up plugging it in. The connection via USB also causes problems again and again. Please work on these connectivity issues and also review your support materials. There are many holes and dead ends in the literature that either don't work or just don't make sense. If I had more free time I would look for a replacement for this scanner in its current form. UPDATE: I will downgrade my rating to 1 star only. The setup for this is ridiculous. Can't be set up on newer networks, so what's the point of calling it portable anyway.
