This additive has zinc which has an anti-wear property. It warns against using this product in newer passenger vehicles due possible damage to the catalytic converter. I use this product in my mower and off-road dirt bikes. All of those engines are reaching extreme longevity usage and are still running great with no exhaust smoking or oil consumption. My Exmark with a Kawasaki air-cooled engine has over 700 hours of harsh usage and is still running strong and I've added this product at every oil change since new. I admit that I change oil/filter more often than recommended by Kawasaki. I can't make a claim that this product is directly responsible for such engine longevity in my engines, I will continue to use and believe in this product.
