It seems to work the second time.
The first replacement light was received and the connection to the factory 3rd brake light did not work. It turned out that the box I received had been previously opened and resealed. It is likely that the supplier will recycle returns without inspecting them before re-shipping, but this is pure speculation. The second spare tire lamp worked as expected, time will tell.
