This aquarium is beautiful and I think there is enough room for roosters. I've had cocks most of my life, I currently have 55 cocks and all but one are in 2.5 and 2 gallon tanks (specs). These bettas stay at the front of the tank and rarely explore their larger tanks. For my 5th and 6th Bettas I chose a cube and found that they are more active and enjoy swimming around the cube. Unfortunately my sixth rooster died today because he jumped out of the middle hatch hole. Dice I just want to warn everyone that you should keep the water level under an inch because your betta can be one of the most active and jumping around. In this case, the aquarium looks much smaller, but it can save the life of your betta. I found it too late and I'm really sad and I feel so terrible. I just hope other bettas and owners don't have to go through this. **Update: Instead of lowering the water level by more than an inch, I purchased several needle grid sheets at an arts and craft store for $0.59 each. I cut them to fit over the round opening of the cube so my betta can't jump out but can still breathe through the holes in the mesh. I bought 2 more cubes for the 2 bettas I have on the go. These tanks are convenient and easy to clean as they fit under a regular sink. Much easier than dealing with giant tubs! *** ANOTHER UPDATE (8/17/15): Unfortunately, another of my bettas died because it jumped out of a small rectangular hole in the lid. I had a round hole on the lid covered with a mesh needle cover (like I mentioned in my previous update) but I left the smaller rectangular hole open thinking the betta wouldn't be able to get through that hole to jump. Totally my fault and I feel incredibly terrible about it. I never thought this would happen to me (twice as well) :( so just wanted to let people know that roosters can jump through BOTH holes on this lid. ! I feel so awful about my betta and I hope these ones Review will help some People are taking precautions with this tank I am now the proud owner of 16 bettas many dice and all lids closed properly with no room for a betta but I would like **UPDATED (again) 7/8/17 : First Pictures deceased (not due to jumping) I have a new female Betta and I'm attaching a photo of it in a cube and also how the mesh cover looks on the lid and how the light is attached to the back I made sure that the leaves of the plants protrude from the small space on the lid where the light is attached so my rooster doesn't have to have the ability to jump out of the tank Just share to give everyone an idea of what this tank looks like. The craft mesh cover was very helpful for all my betta tanks that don't have full lid coverage :). Since this aquarium is small, it was a lot of fun choosing miniature decorations for it. Also, my betta loves to sleep in his castle and rest among the leaves of his milkweed. The lighting and glass quality of this tank really help bring out the colors of the waterscape.
