We ordered/used this heat lamp from a pet food store instead of heat/light to keep our fancy babies warm. It did a great job, and since it gives off heat without the light, it didn't disturb her night's sleep. It had to be a little closer to them than the light for the heat to reach them (perhaps a power issue), there didn't seem to be as much heat as advertised but it worked for what we needed. We only had to use it for a couple of weeks before the chicks were old enough to play in their coop, so I can't comment on its durability.
