
So screwing valves in or out works very well, but getting it back out is a hassle: I had to squeeze the pins a bit with pliers, and use sticky silicone gel to pull the valve up. Maybe the Subaru dealer supplied cheap valves which also explains why they failed after only 1 year. So first take the piston out of the assembly and test it on the valve you want to remove. Adjust the tines until they "hold". I tried magnetizing the tip but it didn't work. If you pull the collar all the way, at least one ball will fall out and bounce off somewhere. Gel in the collar to prevent the testicles from falling out easily.
