Review on Egg Piercer - Enhancing Durability for Long-lasting Usage by Lindsey Braaten

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Efficient and easy to use. No more hassle with cleaning Costco organic eggs!

BACKGROUND: If any of you have bought organic eggs from Costco, you may have experienced the same frustration I did when it came to hard-boiling them. For some reason, their organic eggs always stick to the shell when you hard boil them, making them a chore to peel if you're cooking half a dozen or more. I've tried methods like chilling or soaking in ice water, but none have worked. After some research I found a forum comment about the same problem and the solution was to use an electric egg cooker. I didn't want another bulky kitchen utensil taking up space just for cooking eggs, so I did a little research and found out that the reason the egg cooker works is because it makes a hole and then evaporates. Ah ha! *lightbulb* I didn't have any needles at home so I tried using a paper clip (after disinfecting it with alcohol) to poke a hole and check and it worked! But the paperclip was difficult to use, so I wanted an inexpensive way to do the same. That's how I bought this egg cutter. MATERIAL/CONSTRUCTION: The top shiny part seems to be made of thin metal or aluminum. , and the base is just plastic, and there's obviously a sharp pin in the middle. - The item is made in China. - The top and bottom bases are not removable, at least I haven't found a way to disassemble them. This is actually one of the reasons I gave it 4* instead of 5* because when you start poking the eggs the shell remnants stick to and around the pin. Because it's so small, it's difficult to keep the pen clean inside. HOW TO USE: - It is quite easy to use. You put the egg on top of it, push it down and you hear a quick high-pitched noise and then you have a hole. Simple and effective. SUMMARY: Because of its simplicity and effectiveness, this piercing gets the job done and does it well. For the price, it's definitely worth it if you just want something understated. From what I've read and used, poking a hole not only makes the shell easier to peel, but also helps remove some of the sulfur in the egg that causes a rotten smell when hard-boiled. This also prevents cracking during hard cooking. I would like to note that when boiling eggs, you should try to keep the holes upright, otherwise the yolk will spill out of the hole into the boiling water. Alternatively, you can use a steamer or steamer, which work just as well. CONS: I give 3* for the design because the top and bottom are not removable which makes cleaning difficult. In addition, it looks very cheap and has no safety mechanism. If you accidentally put your finger somewhere in the middle and accidentally lift it up and press it, you will hurt yourself. In my opinion this might be a better puncher because it has a safety locking mechanism: 31dFyNMUgtL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR124%2C160_&refRID=1NKB0SBQHPPQR31A0E31 However, the RSVP egg piercer works as advertised and easily punches holes without damaging the eggshell. I would still recommend this product but if you have young children at home you may want the security lock option.
