Place in a trash can with water to test. The manufacturer recommended an optional check valve. I encountered an airlock problem when attempting to use the 1.25" check valve. The pump did not want to prime with this check valve. Filling water from the top and then turning the non-return valve back on worked fine, but decided not to do that because if the pump dries up, how do you refill it? enough water to fill the pump. Anyway, it has a built in check valve (I think) and seems to work fine without the extra one. I can put a check valve on top of the well. As the title says I am using a storage tank setup, do not feed this pump directly into the pressure tank. The wire attached to this pump appears to be quite thin, maybe 16, 18 or 20, but I'm no electrical engineer. This can lead to a mismatch when trying to select a seam. Connectors for your well wire. I used the connectors provided and stripped some copper wires from the ends of the well wire. I received an extra roller box "protection pump" that comes with this pump. I'm hoping this rig lasts a while, but since I'm currently using a hand winch / 1" PE pipe rig, pulling the well is trivial and only takes a few hours total.
