I was hesitant to buy as other reviews said it wouldn't work without a spring block but we needed something to keep our 2 year old from falling out of bed and landing on the bed wooden floor. at night. We bought a Pottery Barn Catalina bed with slatted base and no box spring, but I decided to give it a try anyway. While the adjustable portion of the cord doesn't get caught anywhere, the metal "arms" sit perfectly under the mattress, and the whole thing is held in place by the bed's side rails. That makes it impossible to lower the rail, but I wouldn't use that feature anyway. In the end it was a very safe solution to our problem and my daughter didn't fall out of bed.
