These were great sensory toys for my son. They can be used in water, but don't have to be. Underneath the animal are two small, spherical metal electrodes which, when placed in water, complete an electrical circuit and cause it to glow. You can do the same with just your finger by touching both metal parts at the same time. Your skin has enough moisture to complete the necklace. We've used them in the bath, at night to soothe him in bed and when he needs sensory activity. They will light up and flash for about 30 seconds and then turn off automatically. The plastic is a harder plastic/rubber and large enough not to be afraid of choking.
