We lose power at least once every winter in the Pacific Northwest. Trees usually fall on lines. A few weeks ago I bought three of these lanterns to prepare. A major hurricane came through last night and cut the power, so I rolled out these lights for the first time. They are amazing. They produce just the right amount of light to see what's in the room and to walk around. It's a soft yellow light that doesn't glare at all. I put one in the kitchen, living room and hallway. After the storm I ordered two more of these. However, they do not come with batteries. Each lantern requires three AA. Also, the base is not a real tree. It's just light wood colored plastic. I was a little disappointed that the base is neither heavy nor made of wood. The entire flashlight is plastic, but it certainly does its job well.
