Who would have thought that making a toilet like new would only cost $20 and a little effort! This kit was just what was needed to stop the extremely slow leak into the bowl that caused the tank to refill randomly when the water level eventually got low enough. You can easily tell how worn the gasket is by looking inside the tank (if you see that it's worn, you probably need to replace it). I used this whole kit as is so all parts would be new. Even the waterline is no longer a sticker that just peels off over time, so great too! I substituted two identical assemblies for each of the tanks and now they both work great! Removing the old wearing parts is not easy as you also have to drain the water and remove the water tank but it was worth the effort as the parts present were very old and definitely causing the problem. You won't have any problems if your tank is designed for this kit, it will work great, absolutely no leaks now! But the flush valve that came with this kit was terrible because it didn't have a tiny needle hole for it to fall back down and close the hole. I had to buy two new flush valves and then send the defective ones back. I hope this was just a case with these kits because if not it will be obvious when your toilet flushes twice every time. Make sure your flush valve has a small hole or it definitely won't work because it stays up all the time no matter how high you set the float. It's a small detail that I didn't even notice until I bought two new flush valves and could compare the difference between them. With the right flush valve with a hole in it to let water and air out the float actually works, I lowered the float closer to the valve because I wanted a stronger flush and no clogs. Hope that helps.
