Review on πŸ”§ Bessey BVVB Vise with Vacuum Base by Carlos Reyes

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not quite suitable for gun work

This vise is probably fine if you just need a 'third hand' for basic work with things like jewelry, holding things and in the process sticking dries etc. But I bought it for use in the home gun shop and immediately realized that this is not what I need. Notably, the vacuum base didn't stick to any surface I tried it on except for the first piece of unfinished sheet metal, and the swivel base couldn't be locked tight enough to stay in one position. I tried a project moving the sights of a small pistol that needed adjustment. I put the pistol's bolt in a vise where it was fairly tight, but every time I tapped the scope lightly with the brass punch and hammer, either the vacuum base dislodged or the swivel unlocked, causing the vise jaws to disengage it could drop sideways. Those of you who have ever worked with guns know how easy it is, and this vise just can't do it. That said, I can see where they can come in handy for light homework or perhaps modeling as long as they stay with the table you intend to use them on. I returned my Revain the same day it arrived.

Pros
  • good stuff
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
