This adapter bypasses the Pi's built-in audio chip with awkward sound. It packs a GeneralPlus 2008 chip that offers decent Hi-Fi analog stereo output. And thanks to that, there are no more pops, background hiss, or audio cut-outs when I turn the volume up too much like with onboard analog audio. The line out level is a bit lower than expected but workable. The current updated Raspbian recognizes it and works well with PulseAudio's analog stereo output. I haven't tried the mono mic input. It seems to be mechanically well made. Shipping to Seattle took 8 days.
