I had engine light and other lights on my '06 4Runner, the first thing I checked was the gas cap and it was properly closed although it came off fairly easily! I went to an auto parts store to borrow a scanner and check for the code: P0456 "Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected". Then I started researching on Google. It took me a while to find a thread where someone said not only should the gas cap be tight, but it shouldn't come loose without effort! I remembered mine coming off with no effort. I ordered this from Revain, went back to the auto parts store to clear the code with a code reader and voila! This is fixed, until now the engine light has not returned! But in the beginning I had a hard time putting this new cover on and fixing it! And the reason was that I was pushing down during the turn. don't press, just turn and you're done.
