Review on πŸ’» Sedna PCIE 7 Port USB 3.0 Adapter Card with Molex Power Connector - High-Speed NEC Host Controller, 7 External Ports by Donotello Figueroa

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Unique solution for multiple external USB 3.0 ports; So far, so good!

This card is well made and easy to install with the factory software. I'm currently using six ports with no hardware detection issues. This is very different from my previous 4-port VIA adapter card which intermittently failed to see my external drives after 3 years of light use. Let's hope this 7-port device continues to work flawlessly. Speeds are as expected given the limitations of my 4 year old Windows 7 motherboard, but certainly a massive improvement over USB 2.0. One important point to note during installation: My Dell PC has a fairly narrow opening in the back to access the connectors in each of the slots, so when plugging in the cables the adapter board has to be detached and then into the case be screwed. Once the connectors are perfectly positioned, they can be removed and inserted without affecting the chassis. Great product so far! UPDATE: I've recently had stability issues with this product, particularly with the introduction of some new hardware items to my Windows 7 operating system. When I plug my smartphone or tablet into any USB port on the device, the 3.0 card throws a Code 10 error If this is the case previously connected devices are not recognized. This involved removing the 3.0 card, turning off the computer, turning it back on, and then waiting for Windows to reinstall the driver. Downloading and installing the latest driver did not help. The solution was to download and install the latest FIRMWARE from the chipset manufacturer. After this update I had no more problems and am again fully satisfied with the hub! UPDATE August 2018: After living with this card every day for more than 2 years, my only complaints are random port disconnects. If a USB drive or smartphone is left connected to the card when my system is shut down and restarted, the ports are no longer recognized. This will happen every time unless I remove the devices before the OS starts. Once the card stops working I have to go into device manager and remove the card leaving the software in place. The failed USB sticks/smartphones are then removed and the PC shut down completely. After reloading, the system will automatically reinstall the map. A bit annoying, but it seems to be one of the inherent features of this map. You just have to constantly remind yourself to turn off your mobile phone and USB stick when you leave and you'll be fine! UPDATE March 2019: My local electronics store had a sale on SIIG LB-US0514-S1 with essentially the same functionality as Map of Sedna. Decided to give it a try just to see if there is any improvement. In contrast to the Sedna version, this card can be installed on my Windows 7 computer without external software and has no problem with port detection. While the speeds aren't noticeably faster, not having to reinstall the card if I forget to unplug the USB stick at startup is a big plus. Good.
