No, Kreg didn't invent the pocket hole gauge, but they made it easily available to the masses. The pocket hole attachment is a great addition to any shop and to make it even better Kreg has these little plugs that you can use to easily fill your holes when you're done. I remember the last time I read the reviews there were people crying that the earplugs were too long; said they would have to grind them forever after they were glued in. The nice folks at Kreg made it on purpose folks - one size fits all. Most DIYers will likely use a 3/4" base stock, but the pocket hole attachment is great for materials of varying thicknesses, and these plugs are designed for use with thick and thin materials. For 3/4 inch stock, I either set a small cutoff saw at about 30 degrees (place a piece of wood on the backing for the plug to stand up to) and cut about a quarter inch from the thick end of the plug. If I'm ever lazy or just need a stub or two, I'll quickly chip off a piece with my little band saw or flake off. Apply some glue to everything and slide the end cap until it's almost flush. It doesn't get much easier. than.
