We have very hard water where I live. I bought this product because I wanted to lower the pH in my 5 gallon betta tank and didn't want to use chemical buffers or buy a reverse osmosis filter if I could help. I've tried flaked almonds but they didn't do anything. I placed about a tablespoon of peat granules in a mesh bag between the sponge and bio-beads in my HOB filter and overnight the pH dropped from 8.4 to 6.6 (approx). Too much too fast so I took out all but a teaspoon of granules and even that was probably too much and prayed the roosters were ok. So far he is doing well and the pH is still in the mid 6's. I'm trying to scale it up a bit right now as I also have some Nerites in the tank. As previously mentioned, there is no indication on the packaging of how much to use. After about a week and a half the water started turning a tea color (which I don't particularly like but I can live with that as long as it lowers the pH). So I would recommend this product if you are looking for a natural way to lower pH. Just use a very small amount until you understand how it affects your water.
