I am skeptical about the accuracy of this air quality meter. First we remove everything else. The monitor is well made, looks good, turns on and charges with no issues. It feels like a quality product. But here's the thing. I am currently in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, one of the most polluted cities in the world. It's still warm right now, so most of the factors that cause terrible air pollution haven't kicked in yet, but those of us who spend time in the city monitor air quality year-round, and we're here with the conditions familiar enough to roughly estimate numbers reported by local monitoring stations using only sight and smell. OK, that's funny. The monitor has been running on my living room table for about an hour now and is showing a reading of 7-10 micrograms/m3 for both PM2.5 and PM10. That is not right. It's impossible in this city. My windows are open, there's no wind, and I don't have working air-cleaning devices. I breathe city air and 7-10 for PM2.5 and 10 just isn't right. Just before I wrote "ok, that's funny," the readings suddenly jumped to mid-50s for PM2.5 and 40 for PM10. This is about what I expected in today's conditions, and almost in line with what local monitoring stations are now reporting. Then the numbers reverted to 7-10. In the time it took me to write the paragraph above, the reading went through the same cycle twice, rising to an accurate reading before returning to a ridiculously low reading almost immediately. There were no changes in the environment that could explain this. No gusts of wind. Neither doors nor windows opened or closed. The only thing moving in space is my hands as I type. Yes. The base readings of this device are inaccurate, so it is not suitable for a quick air quality check. You have to wait a few minutes to report true readings, which is far from ideal. I'm giving that three stars because it *seems* capable of reporting air quality accurately. It just doesn't run all the time, which is the bare minimum you would expect from a device of this nature. I'll be monitoring the readings over the next few days and when they start to stabilize at a more accurate level I'll assume there was monitor shake on day one and will update my estimate.
