After a lamp in our basement gave up the ghost, I decided to switch from T12 to the newer T8 bulbs. I ordered this ballast and T8 socket holders (aka "tombstones"). I'm not a big DIYer but I've been able to change things up and the T8 works great. It's brighter now and I don't have to deal with the constant hum of the old ballast. People have commented that older ballasts last longer than these electronic ballasts, so I can't comment on long-term reliability yet. However, I am happy with the purchase and think it was worth it.
