Review on Optimized Hauppauge PVR-150 PCI TV Tuner for WinTV by Chris Beals

GREAT! If you can find software to make it work.

I spent most of the evening and night trying to figure out how to get the program to work. I'm using a brand new build - Windows 7, 8GB RAM, AMD Quad Core 4.1GHz. The drivers that came with it worked great! But when it comes to capture software, that's a different story. I've tried the included AMCap, I've tried WINtv downloaded directly from the Hauppauge site, I've tried MSDVR, Dscaler, Powercinema, the built-in Windows Media Center setup software, EZgrabber, MythTV and NextPVR but nothing worked is working. Now I knew I had the latest drivers and the best I could get was either no sound (via AMcap) or 3fps recording (via WinTV) until I decided to use some old software I had . . Every other software I listed didn't even show an image. The ONLY utility I was able to get this tuner card to work was Honestech's DVD to VHS 3.0. (I haven't tried 5.0, but 4.0 worked too.) This software was meant to be used with iGrabber, a USB capture device for Macs (and a Windows type - if it doesn't crash). Color and sound are great. I really have nothing to compare other than iGrabber and it looks the same. I returned iGrabber because it was frozen on my Windows system. (I had really bad luck with those capture cards.) After figuring out all the software, this is a great product! Of course, it's so old that it won't receive digital channels, but I only use it to rip home videos to DVD.
