Today I got a chenille reference. It reminds me of all the nights I spent with my aunt and grandma in big old creaky beds with crisp cotton sheets and soft fluffy chenille bedspreads. I have a queen captain's bed with a very thick mattress and pad. This means I'll never know if bedspreads and duvets are big enough until I try them (I've learned not to fully trust package sizes), but once I placed the bedspread on the bed it was perfect - it is wide enough to the floor Use a regular bed frame that is long enough at the top to cover the pillows with a slight crease at the bottom and long enough at the bottom to match the length of the sides for a nice uncluttered look all around . The only negative I found was a very strong odor when removing the spread from the ziplock plastic bag - the usual smell of fabric processing and dyeing. A good wash (gentle mode, cold water) got rid of the smell. After washing and tumble drying, there doesn't seem to be any shrinkage (lots of fluff, which is what you would expect from chenille). All in all, I'm really looking forward to spending the summer under this beautiful, light reminder of my childhood. And in Florida, lightweight construction is key.
