I got the NAS after a long recommendation from my good friend. I was hesitant at first, but when I realized my Seagate 3TB external hard drive was about to fail, I got the system right away. I installed two 8TB drives and absolutely fell in love with all of Synology's software and user interface. I set my photos, videos and VPN as the main gateway. I constantly connect to my mobile phone or my NAS at work when I need to download something instead of doing it on my work computer or just transferring files/watching movies. My only issue I've had, which may be more Android-related (although I've only just gotten Ore 8.0 on my Galaxy S7), is that DS video doesn't load the good selection of movies I have when I'm remote and trying to stream it. I've searched the forums for possible solutions and nothing I've tried has worked. It seems to be working fine after updating my phone from Erz 8.0, but I haven't fully tried it yet to see that the OS update actually fixes this. I like that the Synology edition updates frequently and keeps the system up to date. with security fixes etc. But I think what I like best about the system is being able to access it remotely via a fast connection and using the DS get app to download things while I'm away. I rarely get much on my computer since I have a NAS. There are so many good packages out there to get the most out of a NAS. I've also set my phone to back up videos/pictures when I'm only connected to Wi-Fi. Now that I have this system, I can't imagine not having redundant backup solutions for your photos and videos. I mean, these are precious moments that you should keep, and not only that, but all your documents, software, and important data in general. You can't rely on a single external drive.
