I really can't compare it to other filters as this is my first replacement. My hood came with a thin, cheap metal filter that I clean often, but it was beginning to fall apart. I ordered this filter mainly because it fit and I thought the price was right. The product description was pretty vague and I didn't even realize it was a carbon filter and it was a bit thicker until it arrived. While it's not as efficient as more expensive devices, I feel like it's definitely a step up from the thin original, so I'll leave it at that. It fits in the opening with no issues and doesn't seem to restrict airflow or make any unwanted noise, so I guess only time will tell how well it filters the elements.
