These use a rubber washer in between two pieces that you tighten or loosen on the shaft of the bit to set the depth. It's there to hold tension.spoiler, it doesn't. After a few moments of working the piece would start to come loose and increase the depth the screws were driving while I was in the middle of using it. Bought this for drywall installation. After that was too annoying to deal with any more I stripped off the rubber washer and just tightened the pieces against themselves. That made it hard to adjust but once adjusted it wouldn't come undone. If you just need it for a quick drywall install, these would be cheap and fine - need them for a few things? Consider getting a better product. And note to product designers: Rubber washers don't hold tension, try a spring or set screw next time.
