Thick enough that if I put an ATV hat on it I'd have to use one of mine, it won't fit, but it will suffice for everyday use. Have used several others (along with his hat, sister's hat over it, mum's scarf has been wrapped 14 times until all I can see are little protruding eyes) and this one fits better and is much warmer than the ones happy with my purchase - special bargain price. I ordered blue but they sent red but the function will be the same you shouldn't send it back. I will order more for my daughter (she is almost 7 and it fits her too).
