Great product but not well designed.

I love the concept of this product. A card that uses the PCIe slot for nothing more than a place to plug in, instead the product communicates with the motherboard via a header port and even offers a place to connect USB 3.0 headers on the front. However, despite the cool concept, the product has a design flaw that kills it for me. For some reason the card causes my CPU fan to spin up and the optical drive to turn on when the computer has gone to sleep or even shut down completely. I ordered two of these cards and both exhibited this behavior and also exhibited it on more than one system that I had them installed on (on the second system the CPU fan was not spinning but the optical drive was still showing activity, even if the system was not included, which is clearly wrong). My guess is that the USB Type-A connector on the inner edge of the card allows power to flow out of the SATA power connector when plugged in, allowing the motherboard to power the rest of the system even when it's not technically powered on. I'm not sure what the implications of allowing this to be, but this behavior is still very strange and not what I want on my system, so I returned it for a refund after my second try. I bet most people don't notice this because they no longer use optical drives in their systems and their CPU fans no longer respond to the card (like the second system I put it in), but it certainly is it's still such a misdesigned product so I have to give my recommendation to avoid it.
