After reading the description "Fresh Garden Basil Hand Soap has a cool, fresh scent that is uplifting and grounding" I bought a bottle. When I opened it, I immediately got a headache, and then I saw the word "fragrance" in the ingredient list. Then I discovered that Meyer's is owned by Johnson & Johnson, which explains a lot. The USDA allows companies to use the word "fragrance" to refer to a wide range of highly toxic chemicals, including phthalates, so that the product's smell is retained. I have a keen sense of smell and toxic chemicals have always given me headaches. Because of a loophole in the Federal Fair Packaging and Labeling Act of 1973 (which requires companies to label the ingredients in their products, excluding fragrances), companies can add unsafe or untested chemicals to products without consumers knowing. If you care about your health and the health of your family, I would advise you to avoid any product that has the word "fragrance" in its composition.
