Less expensive repair - replacement parts

The original button knob that came with my 2017 CR-V was replaced by Honda in early 2020 when I took my car in for a scheduled service. The button still worked fine but they told me they would recall it and replace it for free. Honda's replacement grip was flimsy and didn't seem to fit; he felt very free. A few months later it broke off completely. Just after my warranty expired. I still had a lot of old buttons in the shift knob that I couldn't reach, so I had to remove the whole button (I followed the YouTube video). If parts are still stuck inside, the new button will either not fit or will be stuck, so make sure you completely remove any old parts. It is easiest to shift into S or L. Gently slide out the plastic. a piece of the back of the shifter (the side of the lever closer to the dash, just below the grip); There are two screws under this part. Remove the screws and the handle slides off. Take out any remnants of the old button. The new knob and spring should then slide in easily and snap into place. Replace the handle, replace the screws and close the cover. So far the MOTOKU replacement button has held up well. The switch was pretty easy. It feels solid and secure. If that button breaks too, I'll probably buy another one and "fix" it myself until I get another car. I don't have a lot of faith that Honda could do better.
