do yourself a favor Don't buy this.

I used to think Toshiba products were of the highest quality. I have a Toshiba 2 disc DVD player that is 10 years old and it still works as well as the day I bought it. After my experience with the Toshiba SD-4100, Toshiba's understanding of quality was completely shaken. It's clear that the Toshiba SD-4100 is a budget DVD player and shouldn't have unreasonably high expectations. However, you should think that a DVD player should last at least 1 year or so with normal use. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the SD-4100. I bought the SD-4100 in November 2008. Shortly after a month, it suddenly refused to play any DVDs. The store where I bought it kindly took it back and replaced it with another one. This second SD-4100 performed slightly better and lasted a few days over the last 3 months. It also suddenly stopped working. After inserting the disc, I heard the motor turning and the laser head moving back and forth to read the disc. Maybe the motor couldn't spin fast enough or the laser head couldn't focus properly. He just stopped reading the discs. Toshiba probably knows how poor the quality of this player is because they sensibly only offer a 3 month warranty on the SD-4100. So please do yourself a big favor. Don't buy this DVD player or you'll end up with a non-working player after a miserable 3 months.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
